For about 2,000 years now, the enemies of Jesus Christ have tried everything to discredit Him, His followers and the faith we call Christianity.  But really, the Apostle Paul actually gave them their greatest opening to destroy the Christian faith with what I think may be the boldest statement in the Bible – and it came from him, in 1 Cor. 15:12-19:

12 Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; 14 and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain.

15 Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; 17 and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.

18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.”

Some of the most brilliant critics of Christianity who set out to disprove the resurrection of Jesus ended up coming to faith in Him when they were confronted with the preponderance of legal evidence for His resurrection.

Paul is correct in essentially saying that that the entire Christian faith hangs on the veracity of the resurrection of Jesus.  If it is true, as the Bible says (with extremely detailed eyewitness accounts, with prophecy and fulfillment of prophecy from Jesus Himself) and one places his or her faith in Jesus for eternal life, such a person has gained the greatest hope known to humanity.

If one rejects or neglects the central teaching of Jesus Himself — he or she makes the most tragic decision a human being can ever make.

Take time to carefully read 1 Corinthians 15 — the greatest chapter on the resurrection of Jesus as well as that of His followers.  It is the most powerful, hopeful truth that is available in the world — a world that ultimately can offer no substantive hope in this life, nor one beyond the grave.
